How Much Does a Septic Inspection Cost in New Jersey?
Complete Inspection of Septic System: $1000*
Includes:
1. Check inside of dwelling for separate "gray" water system and make sure all plumbing is connected into the main sewer system. Check basement walls for evidence and stains of sewage backup caused by clogged or broken sewer pipe from the dwelling to the septic tank. Video inspect the sewer pipe from dwelling to the tank if accessible.
2. Dig off and pump septic tank.
3. Expose "outlet" baffle port on septic tank and video inspect the outlet pipe to the Distribution box.
4. Locate and dig off Distribution box or Seepage pit and video inspect lateral pipes in trenches or septic bed and check seepage pit for overflow pipes that may have been added on. If there is a pump tank, we will open the lid on the tank, test and cycle pump, floats and alarm and also hydraulic load, test the system through the pump tank, then probe into mound to see if it is absorbing water properly. You cannot gain access with video equipment to a pressure dosing system.
5. Hydraulic load test system by running water through a garden hose attached to a certified water meter to measure how many gallons are being introduced into system. We will run 50 gallons per bedroom in an occupied dwelling.
6. Probe into, identify, and locate septic system and determine if it is absorbing water properly.
7. Provide Inspection Report with onsite System Inspection Form with Septic System Analysis and Evaluations on the septic system that diagnose and identify system problems if they exist.
8. Contact local Health Department and check to see if there are any records on file for the septic system and if the client provided the proper address, township, block and lot number within a reasonable time period before the inspection.
Open Pit Inspection: $500*
Includes:
1. Check inside of dwelling for separate "gray" water system and make sure all plumbing is connected into the main sewer system. Check basement walls for evidence and stains of sewage backup caused by clogged or broken sewer pipe from the dwelling to the septic tank.
2. Dig off and open septic tank pump access cover.
3. Hydraulic load test system by running water through a garden hose attached to a certified water meter to measure how many gallons are being introduced into system. We will run 50 gallons per bedroom in an occupied dwelling.
4. Probe into, identify, and locate septic system and determine if it is absorbing water properly. If system cannot be located due to certain types of restrictions such as hard rocky ground or the depth of the system is too deep to be located within the tools on hand, the report will state more investigation is necessary to reach a conclusion.
5. Provide Inspection Report with onsite System Inspection Form.
6. Contact local Health Department and check to see if there are any records on file for the septic system and if the client provided the proper address, township, block and lot number within a reasonable time period before the inspection.
Extras:
1. $.25* per gallon over 1,000 gallons when pumping septic tank
2. $700* additional if a separate gray water system with a 1,000 gallon tank needs to be inspected and pumped
3. Any system with more than 1 distribution box that needs to be dug off and exposed, there will be an additional charge of $30* per box
4. A 2 day hydraulic load testing of the system consistent with the NJDEP standards for vacant dwellings or systems that need to be tested in this manner, $450* extra
5. Soil log performed with Engineer present, $300* fee.
